American multinational company Sonoco is arguably the world’s most renowned packaging company.
In connection with the launch of their new thermal packaging service, they turned to TITAN.
CHALLENGE
Addressing the growing problem of packaging waste, 125-year-old American company Sonoco recently developed a new parcel box rental program .
Branded Orion, this program is a fantastic example of the circular economy in action.
The thermal packaging used in the program is reused multiple times, saving significant landfill space and CO2 emissions—a significant achievement for any pharmaceutical company prioritizing sustainability .
To prepare the packaging for use, Sonoco ThermoSafe developed a series of strictly controlled quality assurance processes, including chilling the refrigerant bottles , which keep the products cool during transport.
They needed a partner who could help them achieve this goal in two stages: first freezing to -20°C , then „tempering” to +1°C..
SOLUTION
Sonoco determined that this entire process could be carried out in TITAN’s world-famous ArcticStore containers , which can maintain temperatures ranging from -40°C to +45°C .
They turned to us because of our years of experience in containerized refrigeration solutions , knowing we could help them scale as demand grew.
After consulting with the senior team at Sonoco’s Putnam facility in Connecticut, U.S.-based refrigerated warehouse specialists TITAN scheduled the delivery of ArcticStore containers to the depot.
Since then, more have been added to other locations, bringing the total number of containers leased to 49.
DELIVERY
Sonoco had allocated two full days to assemble the reefer containers at its Putnam facility.
However, Reid Chamberlin, Sonoco’s Putnam facility manager, managed to shorten the installation to a single (admittedly long) day thanks to the support of a skilled team and an experienced installer.
An experienced local electrical contractor completed some finishing touches and in a short time everything was ready for use.
RESULTS
